Dance competitions are a double-edge sword in terms of the overall experience. They certainly have merit but are full of pitfalls as well. This article is a balanced critique of the world of dance competitions.

not a good mix!

very nicely written.
I can only speak from my own experience...but as a dancer, I never liked competing. For one, I think their is no way to "measure" or calculate one's artistic ability- or how you connect with an audience. Therefore, competitions rely on tallying how many turns you threw in or how high your leg is....it makes dance into a sport, a trick show.
It strips the art form of its artistry..and leaves this dancer, me, quite hollow.
