San Francisco Ballet presents Romeo and Juliet

When Helgi Tomasson set out to choreograph his full length Romeo and Juliet (1994) he said he considered using other music than Prokofiev’s. I’m glad he didn’t. His version is a richly costumed adaptation with beautiful sets. He hews to the standard episodic score as his company's dancers navigate effortlessly between theater and dance. On this program were Joan Boada and Maria Kochetvova in the title roles. Boada's Romeo is played as a kind of everyman character. Music by The Pacific Symphony.

Good Review

Wonderful review of San Francisco Ballet's Romeo And Juliet. I am also a big fan of Prokofiev's music and was glad to hear they are using it in this production. I love to see dancers who are amazing actors when I go to the theatre. After reading Steven Woodroff''s review I feel the need to see this production.

Thank you, Steve

I was not able to see the performance of Romeo and Juliet by SFB this time around but, I must say, reading Steve's review made me visualize what I had missed. Having seen other productions of Romeo and Juliet, the details provided by Steve made me grasp how SFB's performance would differ. Thank you, Steve!

Wonderfully written review!

Enjoyed every word of this review! You could hear the music and see the dancers thru the descriptive words of Steven's review. After reading the review the brief you tube clip brought the story and dance to life and put meaning to this beautiful ballet!
